LAND at Braywick Park has been officially bought by Maidenhead United FC to build a new stadium.

The club said in a statement, it was ‘excited’ to announce it has finalised an agreement with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council to acquire 3.7 hectares of land at the park.

It was reported in November 2020 Maidenhead United FC bought the land for £460,000 in order to build a new stadium larger than its current base in York Road, which has been used since 1871, the oldest used football ground in the world.

Despite the purchase, plans to build the new stadium is still subject to planning permission, which is expected to come forward sometime this year.

If approved, the community stadium will incorporate football, athletics, and wider wellbeing facilities.

The club also said the proposed state-of-the-art facility will support its growth and development as well as secure its long-term sustainability so the club can be enjoyed by generations.

It stated: “This is an exciting development for the club, its supporters, and the local community. It brings our vision to locate the club within the heart of the community as part of a wider integrated sports, recreation, and wellbeing hub at Braywick Park a step closer.”

A consultation with supporters will take place on Monday, May 2, from 5:30pm in Stripes following a game against Aldershot Town FC.

A wider consultation will take place in early summer 2022.
