Waste carriers targeted in Hart as part of crackdown on flytipping
Commercial vehicles were stopped and licences checked
Checks have been carried out in Hart to clamp down on fly tipping and environmental crime.
On Thursday (26 August) commercial vehicles carrying waste were targeted - along the A30 in and around Hartley Wintney.
Around 20 drivers were checked - to ensure they had waste carrier licences and/or scrap licences, and were complying with environmental legislation.
One vehicle was not registered to carry waste and seven drivers were given traffic offence advice.
The operation involved Hart District Council, in partnership with Hampshire County Council, the Police, the Environment Agency and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
Councillor Alan Oliver, Cabinet member for Environment, said: “Multi-agency operations like this are a great opportunity to remind carriers about their responsibilities and take action against those who flout the rules.
“Dumped illegal waste blights our countryside and the removal and proper disposal of such waste is often at the taxpayers’ expense.
Residents can play their part in stopping environmental crime by ensuring they use a registered waste carrier when asking a third party to remove their waste.”
Residents have a duty of care to ensure their waste is disposed of correctly by the people they give it to and can be fined up to ÂŁ5,000 for failure to do so.
You can easily verify if someone is a registered waste carrier by checking their name or licence number details at www.hants.gov.uk/wasteandrecycling/flytipping.
