The owner of a horse which became stranded near Basingstoke has praised fire and rescue crews.

Her 20-year-old gelding 'Prince' became trapped in a ditch near Vyne Road in Bramley.

Crews from Basingstoke, Overton and an animal rescue vehicle from Winchester attached slings to the horse and pulled him to the top of the ditch and helped him back onto his feet.

They were called at 9am last Sunday.

The animal had been laid on its side for about an hour before crews arrived and worked alongside a local vet to formulate a rescue plan.

HIWFRS handed the incident over to the vet before leaving the scene shortly before 11am.

Doreen Turner, Prince’s owner, said:

“The teams were absolute brilliant, they were efficient, kind and managed to get him out and on his feet with no injury to Prince.”
