Man charged with possessing imitation firearm in Basingstoke

It follows incident in the town last week

A man has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence following an incident in Basingstoke.

It comes after officers were called to the Popley and Oakridge areas of Basingstoke on Thursday 14 September following a report that a man was seen with what looked like a firearm.

Officers attended and arrested a man at the scene. The weapon was seized by specialist officers and deemed to be an imitation firearm.

Jason McCrae, 48, from May Place, Basingstoke, has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm in a public place and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He was also charged with using threatening / abusive / insulting words / behaviour to cause harassment / alarm / distress.

McCrae appeared at Southampton Magistrates Court on Saturday 16 September and has been bailed with conditions.

He is due to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday 19 October.
