Police in Windsor are carrying out extra security checks using Automatic Number Plate Recognition to monitor vehicles coming in and out the town.

Police say they're also checking lorries as part of their operation to keep people safe during the period of national mourning following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Thames Valley Police is responsible for the security of the Duke's funeral and has launched what they're calling operation bridge.

The work is being carried out by officers from the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing. Officers will be using Automatic Number Plate Recognition vans which will monitor vehicles travelling in and around the town.

If a vehicle triggers the ANPR technology, a separate unit parked nearby will be deployed and will stop the driver if necessary.

The Commercial Vehicle Unit will also be checking lorries, including their loads, licences and driver hours.

The work is part of Thames Valley Police’s ongoing commitment to ensure that the public is kept safe at this time of national mourning.
