The Environment Agency has been working through the night to protect homes in Purley on Thames between Reading and Pangbourne.

At one stage four pumps were working to keep the overflowing Thames under control.

Two flood alerts were issued on Monday evening - one for the River Kennet in the Theale area and another for the Thames between Caversham and Sonning.

The problem at Purley is under control with the Environment Agency telling us they don't believe any property has been affected.

Maria Herlihy an Operations and Waterways Manager with the EA tweeted last night:

"EAPumps working at Purley Upon Thames to protect properties from flooding, our waterways lock and weir keepers will be manning the pumps over night giving Field ops staff the opportunity to rest"

Pumps are also being used along the Thames at Cookham.
