Elderly man dies after being knocked down in Newbury

Police are asking for help to investigate what happened

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Newbury.

The incident occurred at around 11am Wednesday (25/10), on the A4 London Road at the junction with Newport Road.

A white Vauxhall Insignia travelling eastbound collided with two pedestrians and a dog.

One of the pedestrians, an 81-year-old man died as a result of the collision.

A woman in her seventies remains in hospital with serious injuries. The dog was injured in the collision but survived.

Investigating officer, PC Ian Baldwin of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said:

“I am appealing to anybody who witnessed the collision, or may have been driving in the area and has dash-cam footage of the incident to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.

“You can do so by making a report online or by calling 101, quoting reference 43230479815.

“The man’s next of kin have been notified and are being supported by officers. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
