RAF Odiham near Basingstoke has issued a warning about flying drones near to their base.

Odiham is the home of the UK Chinook force with the giant twin rota helicopters a familiar sight over north Hampshire and Berkshire.

A spokesperson for the base said:

"It is illegal to fly any drone at any time within a Flight Restriction Zone without permission, doing so could result in criminal prosecution."

It's not clear if the base has encountered any issues with drones recently.

This weekend the base sent a Chinook to the RAF Cosford airshow where it showed off its capabilities in front of 55,000 people.

Helicopters at the base operate around the clock and a Chinook is available 24/7 to react in case of a civilian emergency.
