Drivers are being reminded to plan ahead if they're using the M4 this weekend in Berkshire.

From 9pm Friday (24 September) through to 6am Monday (27 September) morning the motorway will be shut between Junction 13 for Newbury and 14 for Hungerford.

It is closed for the removal of the existing bridge beams using a large crane spanning across both carriageways.

During these closures, signed diversions will be in place via the A338, A4 and A34. Delays are expected, so road users are advised to plan their journeys in advance. Updates will be issued over the weekend via social media @highwaySEAST.

Highways England project manager, Gemma Luckhurst, said:

“We are aware that the network will be a little busier this weekend with the school holidays and events at Newbury Showground.

"We have been working closely with the organisers of these events to provide additional signs, and advise all visitors to plan their journeys in advance, using alternative routes were necessary.”
