An investigation is underway into a distraction burglary in Twyford which saw a man posing as a community police officer gain access to an elderly woman's home.

It happened at around 8.50pm on the 8th of May, when he knocked on the door of the property in Springfield Park, and asked to go through the house into the garden.

He then left, claiming he had received a call from a colleague, after which the victim noticed her purse containing cash was missing.

Police have now released a CCTV image of someone they want to speak to as they believe he may have vital information.

Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Robert Chevalier, based at Loddon Valley police station, said: "I am releasing this image as I believe the individual may have information about what happened.

"If you recognise these people or if you think one of them is you, please get in touch.

"Further, I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone with information about what happened, to please come forward.

"I’d also ask local residents with private CCTV or doorbell cameras to check any footage in case it may have captured something that could assist with the investigation.

"You can make a report online or by calling 101. Please quote reference 43210198094. Alternatively, to remain anonymous, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"This is a concerning incident whereby an individual has claimed to be working for the police. To confirm the identity of a police officer, please ask to see their ID badge or if you are unsure, ask for their shoulder number and call 101 to check their validity."
