A new 2.4-million-pound activity centre in Berkshire is beginning to take shape.

An eco-friendly Siberian larch cladding has been added to the outside of the building in Dinton Pastures near Reading.

The material will weather over time to further blend with its natural surroundings and is also certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

The two-storey centre will be the borough’s first net zero carbon building, complete with a number of energy-efficient features including solar panels and windcatchers on the roof, and air source heat pumps, which will significantly reduce the centre’s overall energy demand.

The centre will include an activity hall, meeting rooms and coffee shop with views of the lake. In addition, the building has been created with accessibility in mind featuring a ‘changing spaces’ facility at ground-floor.

Outside there will be a lake side terrace, bridge, and cycle parking. The centre is due to open in time for summer.
