A man has been sentenced for causing death by dangerous driving in Slough.

Kabir Mattoo, aged 22, of Churchill Road, Slough, has been sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment, after he pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was sentenced at Reading Crown Court today (2/8). He has also been disqualified from driving for three years’ and eight months’, which has been deferred by 20 months.

On 7 April 2021 at around 8.25pm, Mattoo was driving a Ford Transit at high speed on the A4 Bath Road, near to Salt Hill Park.

At the junction of the High Street, the lights had changed to red and although Kabir Mattoo did slow down for this he failed to stop at the red light.

He then continued at excessive speed along the A4 where he collided with a man, Mr Paramjeet Singh, aged 54 from Slough who was in the process of crossing the road.

Emergency treatment was provided to Mr Singh by paramedics but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been supported by family liaison officers throughout.

Kabir Mattoo was arrested at the scene and bailed. Following an investigation, he was charged by postal requisition on 6 April 2023.

Senior investigating officer Detective Sergeant Darren Brown of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“This was a tragic incident in which Mr Singh lost his life and my thoughts remain with his family.

“This case, again sadly highlights the dangers of speeding. Forensic works shows that the vehicle was travelling at a speed between 58mph and 66mph, before Mattoo braked. The speed limit for the road is 30mph. Had Mattoo been traveling at the speed limit then he would have been able to stop before colliding with Mr Singh.

“As such Mr Singh paid the price for Mattoo’s dangerous driving.

“Clearly it was not Mattoos’ intention to take someone else’s life, and his early plea and previous good character were taken into account on sentencing.

“But the fact remains speeding kills as clearly show in this case.

“We would urge people to please drive within the speed limit to stop lives being ruined by tragic incidents such as the one that took Mr Singh’s life.

“Thames Valley Police will continue to raise awareness of the fatal four, which are the four main reasons for fatal and serious road traffic collisions.”
