Police appeal over M4 dangerous driving in west Berkshire

Vehicle travelled along the wrong side of the motorway

Police are appealing for witnesses following a dangerous driving incident which occurred on the M4 in West Berkshire between junctions 15 and 12.

The incident occurred today (2/5) between about 6.50am and 7.20am.

A white Vauxhall van drove the wrong way along the motorway, traveling west on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 15 and 14.

The vehicle then joined the motorway in the correct direction before colliding with the central reservation.

A 51-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested at the scene and has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Investigating officer, PC Beth Drummond of that Roads Policing Unit based at Three Mile Cross, said:

“This was a very serious incident of dangerous driving. I would like to appeal to anyone who witnessed it, especially anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.
