Fifty firefighters tackle cottage fire near Andover
Firefighters from across north Hampshire attended
More than firefighters have attended a fire in a cottage in the village of Wherwell near Andover.
It started late saturday afternoon at the property in Mill lane, firefighters had to work to prevent nearby thatched cottages catching fire and deal with power outages caused by damage to electrical cables.
A Hampshire fire and rescue service spokesperson said:
"Around 50 firefighters are currently on scene at a domestic fire on Mill Lane, Wherwell. Crews from Winchester, Andover, Eastleigh, Overton, Basingstoke, Alton, Rushmoor, Fleet, and SHQ were alerted to the incident at approximately 4:45pm this evening.
"Firefighters have been using multiple jets, hose reels, and an aerial platform ladder to tackle the blaze. While the fire is now under control, crews remain on site to dampen down the area and protect nearby thatched properties from potential spread.
"There may be continued local power outages due to fire-damaged electrical cables."
"Last night a crew from Andover returned to the scene to carry out a reinspection. During their checks, they discovered some signs of smouldering and proceeded to damp down the area. As a precaution, a crew will return tomorrow to conduct a further inspection."
