Views wanted on improvements to Berkshire's largest outdoor pool
West Berkshire council are planning improvements to the lido in Newbury
People living in west Berkshire are being asked for their views on how to improve the lido at Northcroft leisure centre in Newbury.
At 72 metres long it’s Berkshire’s largest outdoor pool but it dates back to 1870 and work is needed to upgrade it.
The council is holding a public webinar next week and has an online survey to get your views – head to the local news pages of our website to find out more.
The area around the pool also needs updating and could house some exciting new facilities which could be used for a longer opening period.
Howard Woollaston, West Berkshire’s Executive Member for Leisure and Culture says:
“The Lido is a wonderful facility and there are so many things we could do to make it even better.
“The area surrounding the pool is currently underutilised. We have some ideas on this and would like your views on what we could do.
“We need a clear steer from everyone about what would improve it for them. We’re asking people who either live in West Berkshire, travel there to work or visit the area to fill in a short survey. These views will help us make the best of this unique facility for future generations.”
The council is also holding a public webinar with Councillor Howard Woollaston, West Berkshire’s Executive Member for Leisure and Culture, Jim Sweeting, Sports and Leisure Manager at West Berkshire Council and Paul Martindill, Leisure Consultant at 5pm on Tuesday, 3 August 2021 to discuss the proposals and answer your questions.
To register to join the webinar which will also be livestreamed on the council's YouTube channel.
