Clothing worth thousands found in Basingstoke car park

Two men and a woman have been arrested after Police found stolen clothing worth more than £5,000 in a Basingstoke car park.

Police received reports that three people were acting suspiciously in Festival Place at around 1pm on Wednesday 28 February.

They were seen making multiple journeys to and from a silver Ford car in Caston’s Yard car park.

Officers from the Basingstoke Neighbourhood Town Centre Team attended the scene and found three people sat inside the vehicle.

Following a search, they found a very large amount of clothing with security tags in the boot.

The total value of all of the items was £5,396.84. All of the items were sized and have been returned to four stores – River Island, Next, Monsoon and Quiz.

A 42-year-old man from Dagenham was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop and theft of a motor vehicle.

A 41-year-old woman from Dagenham was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop.

An 18-year-old man from Dagenham was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop.

They have been bailed with conditions until 28 May while Police enquiries continue.
