A Berkshire railway bridge has made the top 10 of the most struck bridges in the country. Data released by network rail for 2021-2022 shows that Station Road in Langley was hit 12 times, placing it 8th in the list.

There were a total of 1,833 bridge strikes across Britain's railways, with nearly £12 million in compensation being paid out for delays to passengers. The data also shows that the number of incidents is up 13% year on year.

Network Rail is relaunching its "Wise Up, Size Up" campaign urging lorry drivers to check the height of their vehicles ahead of Black Friday and Christmas, when parcel deliveries soar.

The company's chairman Sir Peter Hendy says: "Bridge bashers cause serious safety issues on the transport network for both road and rail users.

"Every incident can delay tens of thousands of passengers while we inspect the bridge and repair any damage - creating a huge cost from public funds."

A bridge in Cambridgeshire topped the list at number 1, having been hit some 33 times.
