A Berkshire racing driver is hoping to win one of the best known races in the world this weekend.

23-year-old Phil Hanson from Sunningdale has already won the 24 Le Mans race - but goes into the weekend leading the world endurance championship and hoping for another taste of victory.

Around 300,000 spectators are expected at this year's race and Phil says it's the one every endurance driver wants to do well in.

Phil said:

"Basically Le Mans is like Monaco of our championship it's one of the races of the world championship but its one everyone wants to win and it holds double points so its impact on the championship is huge."

With Phil doing well with the United Autosports team this season he hopes he can repeat the success he enjoyed in 2020.

He says it's a race you have to prepare carefully for:

"In terms of the physical element you can be burning 6-7000 calories in 24 hours so its a proper endurance event but also the concentration if your physical preparation lets you down then your mental concentration can lapse and at speeds of over 200 mph that can be quite costly!"

This year's event celebrates the race's 100th anniversary with Phil admitting: "I think we're going to see a pretty amazing show this year!"
