After a difficult year the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice are continuing to provide vital care & support across Berkshire.
The Hospice was set up by Fiona and John Devine whose son Alexander was diagnosed with a brain tumour at just four years of age.
After four and a half years of operations, treatments and therapy he sadly died at the age of eight.
Through their experience and research, they decided Berkshire needed its own children’s hospice. So began the next chapter in their journey - and they founded the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice.
The Hospice provides essential support to families of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions across Berkshire and the surrounding counties including respite care, specialist play and bereavement support.
As with many charities over the last year the pandemic saw fundraising grind to a halt overnight.
This week is Children's Hospice Awareness Week and they are raising vital funds with their campaign #ROCKTHEBLUE. The idea is to take on a blue-themed activity or challenge.
Co-Founder Fiona Devine told us that throughout the pandemic volunteers did nott want to stop working and supporters were fantastic in offering to help in any way they could:
"Thank you to everybody that supports us and has supported us through the pandemic, please continue to do that important work for us because actually it does make such a huge difference. During the pandemic the children and families have probably needed us more than ever and it's so important that we can continue to provide the service that we know is desperately needed."
