A team of eight young British water skiers – including a 21-year-old from Benson near Reading - will compete at the World Junior and Under 21s World Championships which get under way in Florida, USA, at the weekend.

Katie Nutt of Benson in south Oxfordshire will be hoping to continue the good form that saw her pick up a silver medal in the slalom at the European Under 21 Championships at Seseña near Madrid in Spain, earlier this month.

The two Championships will be held consecutively with the Juniors getting underway on Sunday 22nd August and the Under 21s on Wednesday 25th.

The World Championships are held every two years. The Juniors should have taken place in 2020 but were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, skiers who would have qualified by age had they taken place in 2020 are being allowed to compete and the event is officially the 2020 World Junior Championships.

Competition will take place on man-made lakes at Pickos Ski School, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Great Britain are the defending World Under 21 Champions, taking team gold in Canada in 2019. With the exception of Ben Turp, who was part of that victorious team, the 2021 GB squad consists of entirely new members.

GB Under 21 Team:

Katie Nutt (21) Benson, Oxfordshire: Ben Turp (20) Gosfield, Essex; Tilly Turp (18) Gosfield, Essex; Charlie Emmett (20) Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire; Georgia Fearn (19) Sheffield, South Yorkshire; Molly Lee (17) Putney, London.

GB Junior (Under 17) Team:

Tilly Turp (18) Gosfield, Essex; Molly Lee (17) Putney, London; Lilli Deste (16) Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire; Dani Halford (15) Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.
