Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen a woman trying to get out of a blue Renault near Farnborough Road in Aldershot early on Wednesday morning following an assault.

Officers received a report that a woman in her 40s was assaulted and forced into a car by a man known to her on Shoe Lane, near the Basingstoke Canal, at around 4am on Wednesday 11 September.

The woman was driven around Aldershot and was returned to Shoe Lane at around 5.30am. She then exited the vehicle and tried to seek help from motorists on the Farnborough Road/A325.

She suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault and was located safe shortly after. Officers launched an investigation and have arrested a man.

A 56-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, false imprisonment and kidnap.

He remains in custody while our enquiries continue.

“We are carrying out a thorough investigation into what has taken place and to assist us with this we need to hear from anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police.
