Reading man cleared over death outside Surrey pub
Jury persuaded it was self-defence
A man from Reading has been found not guilty of manslaughter by a unanimous verdict of the jury on the basis of self-defence following an incident outside the Kings Arms pub in Bagshot on Wednesday, 14 June 2023.
Officers attended reports of an assault on Bagshot High Street at around 10am on Thursday, 15 June.
The victim, Lee Ringrose, 37, from Bracknell, was taken to hospital where he remained until his death on Thursday, 6 July.
Darren Makepeace, 38, of Wensley Road, Reading, was initially charged with causing grievous bodily harm but this was subsequently changed to manslaughter following Mr Ringrose's death.
Following a trial at Guildford Crown Court, which concluded on Thursday, 21 December, the jury returned a unanimous not guilty verdict on the basis of self-defence.
