"Distressing" attempted robbery in village near Reading

Woman punched in the back as man attempts to steal her handbag in Goring

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Goring.

It happened at around 7.10pm on Saturday (16/10) in an alleyway between Farm Road and Lockstile Way.

A 48-year-old woman was walking via the alleyway when she realised someone was behind her. The man grabbed her handbag and tried to pull it from the woman. He didn’t manage to get the handbag, punched the victim in the back and ran off.

The offender is described as a white man, 5ft 8in to 6ft tall with dark eyes. He was wearing a black hooded jumper and black snood.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Richard Whitcombe based at Abingdon police station, said:

“This was a distressing incident for the victim in this case.

“We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen anything or has information about this incident.
