Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a sexual assault and attempted rape in Reading.

Between 3am and 3.45am on Sunday (27 July), a woman in her twenties was approached by an unknown man, who sexually assaulted and tried to rape her, in Merchant’s Place in the town centre.

Specially trained officers are supporting the victim.

The offender is described as Asian/Russian, around 5ft 7ins tall, with lots of facial hair and long, straight black hair.

Detective Inspector Stuart Streeter, of Berkshire West CID, said: “We understand this sexual assault and attempted rape will cause concern but we are carrying out a thorough investigation.

“There will also be extra police officers in the town centre this weekend. Anyone with concerns should speak to a uniformed officer or get in touch with us.

“We are appealing for the public’s help in this investigation and would ask any witnesses or anyone with information about this incident to please come forward.
