Attempted murder charge in Basingstoke

It comes after a man was attacked in a street robbery

Officers investigating a serious assault in Basingstoke have charged a man with attempted murder.

Police were called at 11.24pm on Tuesday 30 January to reports of an assault on a footpath near Buckskin Lane.

A man in his 40s reported being assaulted with an unknown weapon. His phone was also taken.

The man suffered serious facial and head injuries and was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital to receive treatment.

Amman Majid, 18, of Chivers Close, Basingstoke, has been charged with attempt murder and possessing a knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place.

He appeared at Southampton Magistrates Court on Saturday 3 February and was remanded into custody.

Majid is next to due to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Wednesday 6 March.

A 21-year-old man from Basingstoke arrested on suspicion of attempt murder and robbery has been bailed with conditions until Thursday 2 May.
