Man arrested after reports of firearm at Reading fun fair

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after reports a man with a firearm was seen at a fun fair in Reading.

The incident was reported at 8.15pm on Sunday (13 June) in Palmer Park, with allegations that the offender was waving it at people.

A man was arrested at the scene.

No-one was hurt.

Searches were carried out in a room at the Elmhurst Hotel in connection with the incident but no weapon was found.

A 20-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He has been released on police bail until July 11.

Investigating officer, PC Mark Skeavington, of Reading police station, said: "I would like to appeal for witnesses to this incident, or anyone that may have information about it to please get in touch with police.

"This reported incident would have been a particularly frightening thing to have taken place in such a public space. However, thankfully, nobody was hurt.

"We would ask that anyone with information makes an online report, or calls 101, and quotes reference 43210259114.
