Andover market celebrates anniversary
The second Sunday market was set up three years ago
This Sunday 8 June marks the third anniversary of the Second Sundays Market on Andover High Street.
Second Sundays Market is a modern market that supports emerging and established independent producers, designers, and makers, showcasing Andover’s best local talent. Test Valley Borough Council launched the market in June 2022 and so far, it has supported 130 independent traders, generating more than £120,000 for the local small business economy. The market runs from 10am to 3pm on the second Sunday of each month, providing a vibrant atmosphere for both traders and visitors. With a diverse range of stalls, live entertainment, and delicious food options, it’s a perfect day out for the whole family.
Brilliant
Local trader, Lana Sukhova owner of Happy Adjika, said: “Second Sundays market was the first event we ever did as a brand and it was a brilliant introduction to artisan markets, and helped us launch in the local area. Since then, we have been trading at Second Sundays every month to connect with new and regular customers and it has really helped us showcase our products to shoppers from Andover and the surrounding areas.”
Young traders
In addition to the usual array of vendors, this special anniversary market will also pilot the first Young Traders Market, as the council aspires to create as a new stand-alone market in the future. The initiative offers a unique opportunity for young entrepreneurs aged between 11 and 25 years to sell their products in a real market environment. Young traders will have the chance to meet new customers, grow their businesses, and benefit from a supportive trading atmosphere. It’s a great opportunity for young people to kickstart their entrepreneurial journey and showcase their creative talents.
Proud
Councillor Phil North, Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, said, "We are incredibly proud to celebrate the third anniversary of the Second Sundays Market. This event has become a cornerstone of our community, bringing together local talent and fostering a vibrant market atmosphere. The addition of the Young Traders Market is a fantastic opportunity for our young entrepreneurs to shine and develop their business skills in a supportive environment."
