Police are appealing for witnesses after a burglary at an auction house in Alton.

Police received a report that just before 10:15pm on Monday 16 October, a window was smashed at Hannam’s Auctioneers on Selborne Road and two people drove off in a blue car with a unique, Japanese sculpture.

The work of art taken is described as being the 'Hawk On Stand Koro by Maruki, a Japanese bronze incense burner'.

It's previously been valued at between £50,000-£60,000 and described by experts as 'rare, unusual and sensational'.

Police have conducted a number of enquiries and are now asking for any information from the public that might assist with their investigation.
