Police investigate suspected murder near Basingstoke

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman in Alton.
Investigators are treating the 54-year-old’s death as suspicious after her body was found at an address on Spitalhatch shortly before 3pm on Sunday (1 August).
A 59-year-old man from Alton has been arrested on suspicion of her murder and remains in custody at this time.
Formal identification has not yet taken place, but the woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Gunson said: “This investigation is in its early stages, and we ask that anyone with information make contact with us.
“There will be an ongoing police presence in the area as we conduct our enquiries, we thank local residents for their patience.”
