A woman has been charged with the murder of a man from Stevenage.

Police were alerted just after 11.50pm on Wednesday 19 June to reports of a severe assault in Walden End. The East of England Ambulance Service responded to the scene, where the victim, identified as Peter Lynch, was transported to hospital with suspected stab wounds. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A woman in her 30s was initially arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently released on police bail.

The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit conducted the investigation into the incident.

On Monday 5 August, Erin McNeilly, 34, from Walden End, was charged with murder in connection with the case.

Detective Inspector Lee Martin, overseeing the investigation, stated: “Our team have been working hard to establish the full circumstances of what happened that evening and the events that led to Peter’s death. As a result of our enquiries, we have now charged McNeilly who has been remanded into custody. The first hearing is scheduled for Tuesday 3 September at Cambridge Crown Court.”

He added, “I’d like to thank local residents and members of the public who have assisted us with our investigation. If anyone has any information and is yet to speak to police, please don’t hesitate to contact us.”
