Bucks and Dacorum waste centres move to winter opening times
From today, Oct 1st, sites will close earlier
Recycling and waste centres across Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire have confirmed they are moving to winter opening hours from today.
Buckinghamshire Council's nine household recycling centres switch to winter opening hours on Friday 1 October. The new opening hours will be 9am to 4pm.
The household recycling centres will open the same days as normal, it’s only the opening hours that are changing due to the number of visits to the centres tailing off after 4pm as the evenings get darker.
Peter Strachan, Cabinet Member for Environment & Climate Change, said:
"The switch to winter hours, 9am to 4pm, happens every year on 1 October as the sites get quieter and the evenings get darker. However, our household recycling centres will continue to offer a comprehensive service for residents within the revised opening hours.
“You don’t need to book a slot to visit the centres, but I recommend that you check our live webcams before setting off: www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/bin-collection-recycling-and-waste/recycle-household-waste”
From 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, the opening hours for the Hemel Hempstead recycling centre on Eastman Way, HP2 7DU change to the winter opening times of 8am – 4pm.
This centre will remain closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
From 1 April 2022, summer opening times of 10am – 6pm will resume.
The Berkhamsted recycling centre on Northbridge Road, HP4 1EF remains open 08.30am – 4.30pm every day except Thursdays and Fridays.
It is possible to check for queues, locations, opening times and accepted items at all Hertfordshire County Council recycling centres on their website.
Residents who plan to visit the recycling centre in a van or trailer will need to apply online for an instant, digital van permit. Permits are free and are valid for 12 visits within a 12 month period. Business waste is not currently accepted at recycling centres. Only a limited amount of DIY waste is accepted.
More information on permits and accepted waste can be found by visiting the Dacourum website.
