Festive treats have been enjoyed by zoo residents near Tring today.
As ZSL Whipsnade Zoo prepares to reopen tomorrow (Wednesday 2 December) just in time for Christmas celebrations to begin, zookeepers treated the wolverine pack to a morning of festive fun.
Zookeepers at the UK's largest Zoo snuck into the wolverine's woodland home before they woke up and decorated with giant Christmas themed candy cane pinatas - filled with their favourite treats.
The iconic predators, sometimes called 'gluttons' thanks to their healthy appetites, made short work of the treats, quickly tearing into them with their strong claws.
ZSL Whipsnade Zoo's Chief Operating Officer, Owen Craft, said:
"We cannot wait to reopen our doors tomorrow - just in time for some wonderfully festive family days out to be had. The wolverines got in on the action early with their candy cane inspired treats, and they loved it!
"We've got a Christmas-themed self-guided trail for visitors to embark on, and we're delighted that we are able to still bring Father Christmas to our visitors.
"It's been a difficult year for us all and paying us a visit is one of the best ways you can show us your support - I can't think of a better place to be this Christmas!"
Every Christmas visit helps to support the global conservation work of ZSL - the international conservation charity behind ZSL London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo, as well as ensure the future of ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.
