WheelPower returns with Buckinghamshire's biggest cycling fundraiser
The charity helps get disabled people involved in sports
Organised by WheelPower, the MKFM Tour de Vale Charity Bike Ride has raised funds that have transformed the lives of thousands of disabled children and newly injured adults in the last 17 years.
WheelPower relies on the support of fundraisers and the local community to provide the sessions and support for disabled people they do.
Every pound raised help them continue their work at Stoke Mandeville Stadium and beyond.
Sign ups are still available for todays fundraiser - with three routes to choose from.
The options all start and finish at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, and vary in lengths depending on what the cyclist is comfortable with.
- 25k Fun Ride for all the family (capacity of 725 riders)
- 70k Challenge Ride with a few steep hills
- 115k Advanced Ride for experienced cyclists
WheelPower encourage cyclising of all abilities to join them, whether the bike has been gathering dust or the persons main mode of transport.
Martin McElhatton is the Chief Executive of WheelPower:
"Sport has the power to bring people together and for disabled people that is fantastic.
"Today really is a community event and everyone is welcome, we always have a few hand cyclist, people who are new to cycling and keen cyclists.
"Tokyo 2020 was a year delayed but the inspiration people get watching the Olympians and more importantly for us the Paralympians is just great.
"we are at the other end of the spectrum where we are encouraging young and newly disabled people to get into sport and helping them on that journey.
"Some may become Paralympians of the future which is lovely to see but what we really do is transforming peoples lives through sport.
We hope they find the enjoyment of sport, whether its through a social, health or fitness aspect."
