Several gang members have been sentenced for their roles in a series of violent incidents that took place in Watford during summer 2024.

The sentences were given out at Reading Crown Court on Friday (21 November).

Marcel Gordon, 19, of Garsmouth Way, Watford, received a six-year prison sentence for grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. His conviction relates to a targeted attack at Maeme’s chicken shop on 23rd July 2024, where a man in his 20s sustained a serious stab wound.

Two days later, on 25th July 2024, a series of violent events unfolded. A disturbance in the park at Meriden Way was followed by an altercation at around 5.20pm on the A41, where a man riding an e-bike was shot and severely injured during an encounter involving a black BMW. The victim, who suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound, has since made a full recovery.

A 17-year-old boy from Watford, who was a passenger in the BMW, was found guilty of GBH with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He was sentenced to seven years in prison but was acquitted of attempted murder.

The driver of the BMW, Hekmat Galmne, 27, of Village Way, Pinner, was convicted of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, with the jury concluding he fired the shot. He will be sentenced on 13th February 2026.

Carlito Dujon, 21, of Dodd Road, Watford, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for three offences. These include possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence, following a retaliatory shot fired while riding another e-bike on the A41. He was also convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of a bladed article found during his arrest.

Marcel Gordon was further sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for violent disorder related to the park incident on Meriden Way, raising his total sentence to seven and a half years.

Desmond Bonato, 20, of Raphael Drive, Watford, had already been sentenced to 18 months in prison for violent disorder at an earlier hearing after pleading guilty.

Detective Inspector Mark Butler, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, spoke about the significance of the sentencing. He said: “Today’s sentencing sends a clear message: violent and organised crime will not be tolerated in our communities.

"These individuals brought their violent gang warfare to the streets of Watford, putting lives at risk and fear in our communities. Thanks to the dedication of our officers, they have been brought to justice. We will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle gangs and protect the public.”

Detective Inspector Michael Ball, from the Operation Thwart team, added: “These investigations demonstrate the power of collaboration. Our team worked closely with our colleagues in the Major Crime Unit to track these offenders and bring a stop to their criminal network.

"It was a complex, lengthy investigation, but the outcome shows that we take dangerous individuals off our streets and make our communities safer.”
