Police in Watford are investigating an arson - after a fire at a block of flats last night which left a person hospitalised.

Police were called to Adams Court, Cezanne Road, at around 9.50pm last night (Monday 1 August) to reports of a fire. Officers attended, alongside the fire service.

A number of properties were evacuated whilst the emergency services worked to extinguish the fire and establish where it had originated.

It was later established that the fire, which is believed to be deliberate at this time, was set in the communal area of a block of flats. A scene guard was put in place, and officers remained at the address overnight.

One person was taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation. No one sustained any serious injuries.

Detective Constable Julie Vint, who is investigating, said: “We appreciate that this incident will understandably cause a great deal of concern among the local community. Our officers remain in the area to provide reassurance.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who may have any information about the fire to please get in contact as soon as possible. Any information, even something that may seem relatively minor or insignificant, could be key to progressing our investigation.”
