The Liberal Democrats won a by-election in Watford’s Tudor ward yesterday (Thursday, December 4), seeing off a Reform UK challenge.

Callum Robertson, the Liberal Democrat candidate, won 821 votes against 433 for Mark Dixon, the Reform UK candidate, and has now been elected as a Watford borough councillor.

Danny Mosley (Con) received 148 votes, Seamus Williams (Lab) received 111, and Dave Dunckley (Grn) received 77. Turnout at the by-election was 30.49%.

The result means that the Liberal Democrats have retained the seat, with the by-election called after Charlott Saunders stood down for “personal reasons”.

Newly elected Cllr Robertson said: “I’m humbled by the result. Thank you to every resident who put their trust in me and the Liberal Democrat team.

“From leading the charge to rebuild our new hospital, taking our crumbling roads and pavements seriously, and tackling crime, people are backing the Lib Dems to take action on the issues they care about.

“I’m proud to represent this area as your new councillor. I will work my hardest to hold this Labour government to account, and work with Peter Taylor to deliver on your priorities.

“This result shows that if residents want to send a message to this Labour Government, and beat Reform UK, they should back the Lib Dems in Watford.”

Peter Taylor, the Liberal Democrat elected mayor of Watford, said:

“This result shows the confidence people have in the Lib Dem team to fight for them and that the best way to send Labour a message is to vote Lib Dem.

“Callum will hit the ground running and use his energy and enthusiasm to get local people the fair deal they deserve.”
