An academic at the University of Hertfordshire has said we should expect to see more frequent and hotter heatwaves during British summers due to global warming.

Dr. Philip Porter is a Reader in Geoscience and has worked in the High Arctic for almost thirty years, having seen first hand the impact of global warming on the planet.

He said, "risks from extreme heat are going to increase" but he added that we're going to get "warmer and wetter winters and much more intense summer rainfall" too.

He also suggested that people will need to "adapt to these events and prepare better for hotter, drier summers" and start boosting resilience through "good building design and changes to working habits."

The hot weather is expected continue into next week and the Met Office has issued an amber warning for Sunday 17 July which will impact Bucks, Beds, and Herts.

They have said, "warm nights and hot days are expected to bring widespread impacts to people and infrastructure".

Some of the dangers they have outlined include, adverse health effects, increased risk of water safety incidents due to more people visiting coastal areas, lakes, and rivers, and travel delays.
