Access to a web browser is important for homeschooling

Buckinghamshire children are being helped thanks to a local tech company.

Tanswell Technology Ltd, a Tring based company, is helping school children who are being homeschooled by donating refurbished laptops to local schools.

It began when a client replaced two laptops, and wanted to have the old ones put to good use. Together, he and Richard Tanswell, director of the company, decided to refurbish and securely restore them before donating them to children in need.

The crucial thing school children need access to is a browser, with lots of schools using sites like Google classroom to organise teaching for those at home.

Richard explained why Tanswell Technology decided to expand this one off decision to the current scheme:

"Teachers are trying to deal with key worker children who are in school, and then sort the teaching for people online.

"I just don't think there is much schooling going on for those children who don't have a device.

"So the sooner we can get a device out to them the better in my view.

"We have received some really old ones and today we have been trialing some ways to getting an operating system and working web browser on them.

"We've even got laptops that are 12 or 13 years old working and they aren't too slow.

"It's better than nothing."

Over the weekend his team had around 30 laptops collected and dropped off to them.

Richard wants to assure people that all data is wiped from the device before it is passed onto the schools to redistribute.

Anyone who has a spare laptop (tablets are welcome but can be more difficult to update) are being asked to email Richard at richard@tanstech.co.uk

Parts like charging leads are also being asked for to help Tanswell Technology get the devices up and running as soon as possible.
