Tring community spirit praised by local business
PAMS Sandwich Shop in the town are glad to be able to be open for this second lockdown.
As we settle into another lockdown, we have been hearing how businesses have been adapting.
This morning, we are hearing from Andy, who runs PAMS Sandwich shop in Tring.
He told us this is different to last time:
"There are still people working, there are still people who need to come out and buy food, buy lunch, etc.
"So I think this time there definitely will be a marketplace there for us."
Andy paid tribute to independent businesses in Tring, but said they won't stay if people don't use them:
"There's no other way the money comes in! "It's been a tough time the last few months and a lot of people are living hand-to-mouth, if you like.
"No one has multi-million pound backers."
Andy said that there is a much stronger community spirit in Tring as a result of the pandemic.
He feels that isn't just with customers but amongst shop owners and keepers as well.
Many shops which might not have stayed open have adapted so they can do click-and-collect services or offer something different.
But for a sandwich shop, there is a risk with staying open this time round, when footfall might drop.
Andy explained:
"We have to buy stock in and it's stock that is perishable.
"So we have to be careful about what we can buy because if we don't get the footfall, it goes in the bin."
