Detective Constable Carina Ng, from the Dacorum Local Crime Unit, said:
“Firstly, we would like to reassure residents of Tring that we are stepping up our proactive patrols in response to these offences.
“We have been carrying out extensive investigations, including house to house enquiries and reviews of CCTV footage, since these reports were made to us, and we are treating the offences as linked. One of the stolen vehicles has subsequently been recovered in north London and seized as part of the investigation.
“We know many people now have doorbell cameras or CCTV systems fitted to their properties, so if you live near to Hunters Close or Grove Gardens we would be grateful if you could review your footage in the relevant time frames. If you think you have captured anything suspicious, please contact us straight away.
“If you have recently witnessed any unusual activity in the vicinity of Hunters Close or Grove Gardens and have not yet spoken to police, please get in touch.
“In addition, if you witness any suspicious activity or you think a crime may be in progress, always dial 999. Though it is not open to the public, Tring police station is a base for officers from our intervention team (those who respond to urgent calls from the public) as well as our Safer Neighbourhood Team, so a 999 call gives us the very best opportunity to reach that location as quickly as possible, and detain anyone who may be committing offences.”
