Another supermarket could be opening on an Aylesbury retail park - the third on the site.

The Food Warehouse, by Iceland, could take over where Harveys is on Cambridge Street, as and when the furniture store closes.

There is already a Lidl and Farm Foods there.

Developers have applied for planning permission to allow the sale of food from Unit 6, which has been occupied by the struggling furniture retailer.

Owners expect Harveys to close any time now.

The application says:

"The proposed development will contribute positively to local economic wellbeing, providing in the region of 20-25 new jobs within a soon to be vacant unit."

The report goes on to explain that The Food Warehouse format is a fairly new concept in food retail unveiled by Iceland in 2014 and is now being rolled out as part of a nationwide programme.

There are now over 140 such stores operating nationally and they trade predominantly from retail park locations.

A decision by Bucks Council is expected in September.
