Thames Valley air ambulance launches summer fundraising campaign
The charity provides vital pre-hospital care across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
Matt Jones, who had his arm amputated following a serious road traffic collision in 2019, is fronting the Thames Valley Air Ambulance summer fundraising campaign.
Matt faced a long and complicated recovery after his bike collided with a car, causing a traumatic brachial plexus injury, when nerves are pulled out of the spinal cord. He and his wife, Sarah, are now calling on the community to support the Thames Valley Air Ambulance, saying the support might just save a life like his.
Matt Jones, former patient of Thames Valley Air Ambulance from Binfield near Bracknell, explains why he’s supporting the charity:
“Thanking someone for saving my life is an emotion like nothing I’ve ever felt before. Without Thames Valley Air Ambulance, I wouldn’t have had the last five years with my wife. No words will ever be enough.
“There are hard times in recovery. But now my sunny days outweigh my dark days. With Sarah by my side, I know we can conquer whatever life throws at us. I hope our story gives a glimmer of hope to anyone else who may be going through dark times. The sparkle will come back.”
Amanda McLean, Chief Executive of Thames Valley Air Ambulance, said:
“As a Binfield resident myself, Matt and Sarah’s story is very close to home for me. It shows how everything can change in an instant. It’s so inspiring to see how they have supported each other through the tough times. The fact they’re choosing to support our summer raffle makes me feel incredibly proud, it’s a full circle moment.
“We’re called out around nine times every day to help people like Matt, but we couldn’t do it without our community behind us.”
