The much-loved fast-food seller in Thame has been told it can stay in the town.

The owners of Atalay's Kebab Van were told on Friday night they might have to leave their pitch, that they've occupied for 32 years, because according to South Oxfordshire District Council the vendors didn't have street trading consent.

A petition started on Change.org was signed 2,375 times in less than a day.

South Oxfordshire District Council and Thame Town Council met with Atalay's yesterday, to resolve the issue - that resulted in the vendors retaining their permission to trade.

SODC said their records may not have been up to date due to a fire at the council offices in Crowmarsh Gifford in 2015.

Atalay's thanked everyone for their support on their Facebook page:

"Your support for our van never ceases to amaze us

Thanks to everyone that has signed the petition, shared the post and commented in support on our posts.

We truly couldn't have done this without your support!"

They added special thanks to South Oxfordshire District Council and Thame Town Council who worked with them to resolve the issue, allowing them to open last night for business as usual.
