Outpatient maternity services are moving at Stoke Mandeville Hospital - for nearly a year.

Bucks Healthcare say building work will start this summer on mordern, purpose-built maternity and gynaecology facilities.

It means some appointments happening in a temporary space.

Bucks Healthcare say those in their care who need to have their antenatal or gynaecology appointments relocated will be advised in advance of their appointment.

The Trust added that they have taken appropriate measures to ensure a safe and high standard of care is maintained during the work to improve facilities.

To maintain safe social distancing the Trust will continue to request that patients arrive no more than 10 minutes before appointments to prevent overcrowding of waiting areas.

Tina Charlton, deputy chief nurse at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust said:

"We are tremendously excited to begin the work to transform and update our maternity unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

"We pride ourselves on the high levels of safe and compassionate care provided by our teams and are pleased that we will be able to provide state-of-the-art facilities for those receiving care."

Building work will begin this summer and continue until spring next year when it's anticipated the new improved maternity and gynaecology outpatients department will be able to open.

The improvements to maternity and gynaecology facilities are part of a programme of building work taking place at the Trust to ensure that hospital buildings and facilities offer the best healthcare environments for patients care and staff.
