Hertfordshire Police have confirmed the identity of a man who died after a stabbing in Stevenage last week.

61-year-old Peter Lynch was assaulted in Walden End, just before midnight on June 19th.

He was taken to hospital with serious wounds, suspected to be stab wounds, and died a short time later.

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire's Major Crime Unit say a 34-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been bailed.

She was known to Mr Lynch.

Detectives also opened an investigation, and are now appealing for witnesses.

Detective Inspector Lee Martin, who is investigating, said: “Our thoughts are with Peter’s family at this very difficult time and are being supported by our officers. I understand this may cause concern to the local community, but I’d like to reassure everyone that there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public.

“I would like to hear from anyone who was in the Walden End or Six Hills area at around 11.30pm on Wednesday and may have witnessed or heard something that could help us progress this investigation.

“If you have a dash cam fitted to your vehicle and were in the area at the time, please review your footage as you may have captured something vital that could assist with our enquiries.”
