A passionate Stevenage FC fan is taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon today to raise funds for the Stevenage Football Club Foundation.

Matt Farley, who has been a dedicated supporter of the club, is using the event as part of his training for the Manchester Marathon later this month.

With the Manchester Marathon set for April 27, the timing of today’s race worked well with his training.

Speaking about his decision to take part, he said: "Obviously being a massive Stevenage football club fan and knowing of the hard work that the Foundation do at the club, the guys at the Foundation have asked me in the past if I would like to get involved with the running as they're trying to start a running initiative to raise funds."

The Stevenage FC Foundation plays an integral role in the local community, supporting schools and promoting well-being through various initiatives.

He emphasised the Foundation’s significance, and said : "It's been an integral part in the community around Stevenage Football Club and helping the community in daily activities and schools."

Having previously completed the London Marathon, he is looking forward to the atmosphere of today’s event.

"I love the crowd. I love the buzz of the kind of events that they do in London, and it's actually the London Landmarks Half Marathon—it's one that I haven't done yet. So I'm really excited to be a part of it," he added. "Get out there, wear the football club's badge with pride, and give it a good crack."

Beyond the fundraising and competition, running has had a major personal impact.

He has openly shared his experiences with mental health and how running has helped him.

"I've been someone that's been affected by mental health. My kind of running with my life, it's been a massive part for me, and it's helped me achieve loads of things," he said. "I actually lost eight and a half stone through running, so it's kind of changed my life over the years."

He hopes his story will inspire others to take up running, whether for fitness, mental well-being, or charitable causes.

"The first bit of advice that I always give to people that want to do those specific things is just get out there and start straight away. Sometimes that can be the toughest kind of task of all, just to get out the front door and do it," he advised. "Once you do it, you'll find that kind of bug of it. It always is with me—whenever I go for a run, I always feel great after."

With his eyes set on today’s challenge and the Manchester Marathon ahead, he remains committed to representing Stevenage FC.
