Wycombe MP says he'd like to run for Prime Minister
Steve Baker MP says he needs to reflect on the decision very carefully
Steve Baker MP has said he's sure he could undertake the role of Prime Minister and he'd like to run.
But the Member of Parliament for Wycombe said he needed to "reflect on it very carefully over the next 24 to 48 hours" before making a firm decision.
He also added that he was aware it wasn't "very plausible to believe that any backbencher without cabinet experience will persuade MPs to put them in the last two".
Though he stressed, "I've spent seven years providing leadership on big issues of the day ... so I have to take it seriously when people ask me to do it."
His comments come after Boris Johnson announced earlier today that he would be stepping down as the leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister.
The announcement means there will be a leadership election, where Conservative MPs will put forward two candidates for members of the party to choose from.
As well as Mr. Baker potentially throwing his hat in the ring, other individuals tipped to run include Attorney General Suella Braverman, Jeremy Hunt, and former Health Secretary Sajid Javid, as well as others.
