Small minority of Aylesbury Vale breaking lockdown rules

That's according to the area's Police Superintendent

More fines have been handed out in recent weeks to people breaking lockdown rules in Aylesbury Vale.

The area's Superintendent told us it is 'absolutely necessary' to take that action when people know they are breaking the law.

Mike Loebenberg said:

"Where we see non-compliance, where there is a blatant disregard of the rules, where somebody knows or ought to know that they are disregarding those rules, we will move to enforcement.

"That is absolutely necessary."

Mike told us overall people are following the stay at home rules.

First of all, when they get a report of a potential rule-breaker, officers will encourage compliance and only move to fines if necessary.

The Superintendent said people shouldn't feel worried about reporting those they feel might be breaking the law.

Mike told us they have seen a positive outcome of lockdown, though:

"We have had a reduction in particular types of crime.

"At this time we have the lowest level of burglary across Aylesbury Vale on record.

"Importantly, we have been running on a year-on-year reduction and my team has been working hard to make that happen.

"Over a 5 year period, we were on a 27% reduction even before lockdown."

Unfortunately, there has been a rise in reports of domestic abuse and Mike repeated calls for victims to leave home if they need to.
