A sheep has died after a dog attack in Ardeley.

It was reported that a dog attacked a sheep in Walkern Park Farm on Saturday (30 October), between 12pm and 1.30pm.

The sheep sadly died from its injuries.

PCSO Karen Broad, from the East Herts Rural Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

"I am appealing to anyone who may have any information to please get in contact.

"Any information, even something that may seem relatively minor or insignificant, could be key to progressing our investigation.

"It is crucial that you keep your dog on a lead around livestock, even if you can usually trust it to come when called.

"If you live in or near an agricultural area, you must make sure that your dog cannot escape from your property as it may find its way onto land containing sheep.

"Under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953, it is a criminal offence if a dog worries livestock – not only is it a criminal offence, it is also hugely distressing for the farmers who have to deal with the financial and emotional aftermath of a dog attack.

"Please help us to protect livestock in Hertfordshire by keeping your dog on a lead."

Anyone with information can contact PCSO Broad directly by emailing karen.broad@herts.police.uk .
