Severe weather warning declared in Bucks to protect rough sleepers
A Severe Weather Emergency Provision is in place as the hot weather continues throughout this week and weekend.
As temperatures continue to rise, so do concerns for the welfare of the most vulnerable.
Although such temperatures are not usual for the area, they certainly are for this time of year.
In Buckinghamshire, a Severe Weather Emergency Provision was announced, during which rough sleepers are provided with extra support.
These provisions are unusual in the summer and tend to be announced during extreme cold weather in the winter months.
Councillor Mark Winn, Cabinet Member for Homelessness and Regulatory Services at Buckinghamshire Council, said: "We can go into the shade when required and drink plenty of fluids, but those who sleep rough often don't find themselves with these options."
"We're trying to make sure they're looked after."
In the main towns around the county, where the majority of rough sleepers are found, public spaces have been opened up to them in an effort to provide them with shelter.
Mr Winn said: "What we're asking people to do if they see anyone sleeping on the streets is please contact StreetLink and notify a member of the team who can then go and speak to the rough sleepers."
The council is working with charities around the county to provide them with sunscreen and water.
